ABOUT DR. BLAINE MD, MBA
Dr. Theodore Blaine is a highly respected orthopedic surgeon with extensive expertise in minimally invasive shoulder and elbow surgery. In 2019, he joined the world-renowned Hospital for Special Surgery, the top-rated orthopedic hospital in the United States. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Blaine is a Professor of Orthopedics at Weill Cornell Medical College. His distinguished career includes leadership roles as the former Physician in Chief of the Bone and Joint Institute and Interim Chairman of Orthopedics at Yale University, as well as serving on the faculty at Columbia Orthopaedics and Brown University.

With over 100 published papers, textbook chapters, and two authored textbooks, Dr. Blaine is a leader in orthopedic research and education. He is the founding Co-Editor in Chief of the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Arthroplasty and currently serves as Editor in Chief of Seminars in Arthroplasty – Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. His groundbreaking work in shoulder and elbow surgery, including the development of innovative techniques in shoulder replacement, rotator cuff repair, and tendon reconstruction, has earned him international recognition.
Dr. Blaine's training includes prestigious fellowships in Shoulder and Sports Medicine at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, Elbow Surgery at the Mayo Clinic, and Musculoskeletal Research at the University of Rochester. He is board-certified by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons with subspecialty certification in sports medicine. He is also a member of esteemed professional societies, including the American Shoulder and Elbow Society and the American Orthopaedic Association.
Beyond his academic and clinical achievements, Dr. Blaine has a deep commitment to treating athletes at all levels. A former competitive swimmer, football, and lacrosse player, he has served as a team physician for the Yale University Athletic Teams and as an assistant team physician for the New York Yankees. Currently, he is the Head Team Physician for Darien and Stamford High School Football Teams and a consultant team physician for the US Ski and Snowboard Teams.
Dr. Blaine’s practice spans multiple locations in Connecticut and New York, where he provides specialized care in complex shoulder and elbow surgeries, including muscle transfers, superior capsule reconstructions, and revision surgeries. He continues to be at the forefront of orthopedic innovation, lecturing and teaching on the latest advancements in shoulder replacement technologies.
